The Nehemiah Project is a project established with the intention of restoring this Historical Church Building located at 263 DuPage Street in Elgin, IL. Sadly, due to a fire that started in the lower level of the building, the building was damaged and has been closed for over 30 years. The previous church owners at that time were not able to repair the building and decided to sell the property.
After over 30 years, on March of 2007, we had the opportunity to purchase the property that has two adjoining buildings, and we did! The year of 2007 has been a busy year for our church. Last year, we started working on Building A (facing DuPage Street). We had a new Heating and Cooling systems installed, updated electricity and lighting, replaced carpeting, replaced doors, painted, and brought the building up to compliance. Finally after almost a year of waiting, the beginning of 2008, we received the Occupancy Permit from the City of Elgin to occupy Sections A.
Currently, our goal is to work and have Building B (facing Villa St, oval building on picture) restored by 2009. Once the project is completed, after 30 years, we will be able to accommodate 600 people in this building. This will also allow us to create more outreach programs to help our City and surrounding communities. We face many challenges with this project and cannot do it alone. So, please if you would like to get involved, donate your time and help, contact us via email or phone. If you do not live in the area, but would like to give a monetary donation, please consider giving online today. All contributions are appreciated and will allow us to get one step closer.
